Usually all but one or two source s are textual, with the other source s being graphic usually a political cartoonmapor poster if primary and a chart or graph if secondary.

Participants will examine political science models used at the college level to explain government. Stylistically, these essays may show consistent grammatical problems, and sentence structure is usually simple and unimaginative.

Section one consists of the multiple choice and short answer questions, while section two consists of the document-based question DBQ and a long essay question. Section II, part B, provides three thematic essay prompts.

Students should be encouraged to place their emphasis on content, purpose, and audience and to allow this focus to guide their organization. The student who can write meaningfully about Plato and Jean-Luc Godard will be at an advantage not enjoyed by students with a comparative paucity of literary or cultural influences.

Students, members of the community, and users worldwide will find information to assist with many writing projects. This is where many students, particularly students without a strong background in history, literature, or academic subjects, find themselves most at a disadvantage, and it is also where the AP reveals itself or reveals itself more than usual to be a test of cultural literacy above all else.

Some students may substitute an easier task by presenting tangential or irrelevant ideas, evidence, or explanation. Notice that, on the whole, essay-scoring guides encompass four essential points; AP readers want your essay to be 1 on topic, 2 well organized, 3 thoroughly developed, and 4 correct in mechanics and sophisticated in style.

The reader assigns a score based on the essay's merits as a whole, on what the essay does well; the readers don't simply count errors. Frequently, the ideas are predictable and the paragraph development weak.

That said, this rubric is meant to serve as a guide for scoring and may, therefore, also serve as a post against which you can measure your writing prior to submission for evaluation. Attempt to persuade the other side through reasoned debate.

At the end, you will write a reflection. Participants will be encouraged to share best practices and lessons they have developed for their students and unique teaching situations.

The writer may not address enough of the sources in the synthesis essay. The first two questions are required, but students choose between the third and fourth questions. A critical examination of the Advanced Placement program found that students who took AP courses in the sciences but failed the AP exam performed no better in college science courses than students without any AP course at all.
